What is remote online notarization (RON)?

RON is a secure process that lets you notarize documents entirely online using audio-video technology. It's legally equivalent to an in-person notarization and is authorized under Florida Statute 117.265.

Is remote notarization legal in Florida?

Yes. Florida has authorized remote online notarization since 2020 (FS 117.265). Our notaries hold valid Florida commissions and RON endorsements.

What do I need to get started?

A computer, tablet, or smartphone with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection, and a valid government-issued ID. No special software is required.

How does identity verification work?

We use credential analysis (scanning your ID) and knowledge-based authentication (KBA) questions. You'll also be visually identified by the notary during the live video session.

What types of documents can be notarized remotely?

Most documents that require notarization are eligible, including real estate deeds, powers of attorney, affidavits, contracts, and estate planning documents.

How long does a session take?

Most remote notarizations are completed in 10–15 minutes. Real estate closings may take longer depending on the number of documents and signers.

Do you serve my area?

We serve all of Florida remotely. In-person mobile notary service is available in Sebring, Avon Park, and Lake Placid.

Can a death certificate be notarized?

No. Death certificates are vital records issued by the Florida Bureau of Vital Statistics, and Florida law prohibits notaries from notarizing them. Order certified copies from the state instead — or we can notarize a sworn affidavit attesting that a copy is a true and correct copy.

Do I need to sign my document before the notarization?

No — for most notarizations, you must sign in the notary's presence (in person or via live video for RON). Do NOT sign before your appointment, or the notary may not be able to notarize it.

What is an apostille and do I need one?

An apostille is a certificate authenticating a notary's signature for use in another country. If your notarized document will be used internationally, you'll likely need one from the Florida Department of State ($10 per apostille).

What documents CANNOT be notarized?

Notaries cannot notarize vital records (birth/death certificates), blank or incomplete documents, documents with white-out or alterations, or signatures made outside the notary's presence. Some litigious court documents may also require in-person notarization.

Can you notarize for someone who can't come in person?

Yes, in two ways: Remote Online Notarization (RON) lets the signer notarize from anywhere in the U.S. via live video, or our mobile notary can travel to the signer's location in Sebring, Avon Park, Lake Placid, and surrounding areas.

Are remote notarizations legally valid in Florida?

Yes. Remote Online Notarization is fully legal in Florida under FS 117.265 and is legally equivalent to an in-person notarization, as long as the notary is licensed in Florida and uses an approved RON platform.

Can a notary refuse to notarize my document?

Yes. A notary can refuse if they can't properly verify your identity, the document is incomplete or altered, you appear to be coerced, or the notarization would violate Florida law. We'll always explain why and how to fix it.
